TWO Locations

Wells Hotel Museum

Annex on Adams

The Wellsburg area’s history is preserved through the collection of artifacts, photographs, and personal stories of its residents. The museum’s collection features over 5,000 artifacts and 1,000 images, and donations of any Wellsburg-related items are always welcome. The organization seeks both extraordinary and everyday items relating to local daily life, particularly photographic history. The vast majority of the collection is housed in the Wells Hotel Museum, while exhibits at the Annex on Adams are updated as the seasons change.

Annual visitation is increasing, with the museum welcoming school groups, civic organizations, and individuals alike.

The museum’s regular hours during the summer months, from June to August, are posted on our events page, but appointments can also be arranged by phone. Admission is free, although donations are appreciated. This non-profit relies on the support of its members and visitors to remain a crucial part of Wellsburg.

The foundation was established in 1993 and is an IRS-approved 501(c)(3) non-profit.

Our Mission

The Wellsburg Historical Foundation was organized for the purpose of collecting and preserving the artifacts and memorabilia of Wellsburg, Iowa, and its environs; to compile and interpret the history of the community so its heritage may be better understood by its people and their visitors.  Emphasis would be placed on the period of time from the immigration of its people in the 1850’s to the present time.

Won't You Please Support Us?

We rely solely on memberships, donations, and grants. Without the support of YOU we would not be able to offer summer programs, class visits, or other events throughout the year. Please consider donating to help us continue to preserve and share Wellsburg’s history.
