18-year old Darwin Glenn Kruse was inducted into the U.S. Navy on 16 February 1945. He was killed in action on 30 July 1945 when the cruiser U.S.S. Indianapolis, that S-2/c Kruse was aboard, was attacked by enemy forces in the South Pacific. His body was never recovered.
