In April 1887 the contract was let for a new school house in Shiloh District No. 5, which included the town of Wellsburg. With the new school yard finished at the SE corner of 4th and Madison streets, construction began in July on the 30×49 foot, 2-story frame building; complete with a bell tower. The building served as the community\’s school for the next 25 years. After the new brick school was completed in 1912, this building was sold at public auction on 8 June 1912. J. C. Doyen purchased it for $536 and had it moved by B. S. Mapes of Ackley to the NW corner of 2nd and Adams streets. The building was overhauled and then served as a warehouse and shop for the Doyens until it was sold to Clarence Heinrich and Carbo had it torn down by Leonard Gelder in 1965.
